  • Overview

    Under the general direction of the FTR supervisor the CASAC Case Worker provides direct services to the client and provides consultation to the supervisor/case worker. The CASAC Case Worker will assess and evaluate the substance abusers use, abuse or dependence on the substance. The CASAC CaseWorker will identify and provide referrals for in patient and or our patient drug treatment facilities when indicated. The CASAC Case Worker will provide readiness counseling for treatment and supportive counseling during relapse. The CASAC Case Worker will participate in the clinical diagnostic team (CDT) and family treatment conferences when possible. In addition, the CASAC Case Worker will serve as case planner for 2-6 cases. The goals are to prevent child abuse and neglect; keep families together, stabilize and maintain family functioning; strengthen families and reunite children with their families.



    • Provide initial an ongoing assessment to families with substance use disorders.
    • Provide outreach to the families through home visits and other interventions to engage or facilitate treatment.
    • Make recommendations for services off-site when the level of services merits the need for intensive drug treatment services; follow up with case planning staff about referrals and family progress (ensuring that current service provisions are appropriate and working).
    • Arrange/provide counseling to family members as needed.
    • Identify, develop, and maintain treatment and aftercare resources for clients with substance use disorders, build linkages with other resources in the community to maximize then utilize services for the families.
    • Conduct appropriate groups for the population surged, including but not limited to relapse prevention.
    • Participate in CDT meetings and FTCs where appropriate.
    • Complete progress notes and other required documentation in CONNX.
    • To provide direct service utilizing the Casework Framework Principles (Engagement, Assessment, Change & Safety) to individuals, families and groups.
    • To carry out ongoing risk and safety assessments of the family and clearly document these assessments in their progress notes. Bring all risk/safety concerns to the immediate attention of their supervisor.
    • To provide services utilizing the full range of in-house and community-based services to address issues that place a child at risk of foster care placement and promote maximum safety, supervision and support for children and their families.
    • To complete diagnostic intake assessments including but not limited to safety (30 days) family assessment (30 days) DV (30 days) and cultural assessment (90 days). All assessments to be entered in CONNX.
    • Family outreach occurs within 48 hours of receiving the case. Contact ACS referral to complete JHV in 5 days to complete JHVI transition meeting and schedule intake within 10 days.
    • To enter their progress notes in CONNX within 5 days of the occurrence of the event. Submit hard copies of their progress notes in draft form on a weekly basis to their supervisors. Quality of progress notes must be informative, descriptive and purpose driven utilizing casework framework.
    • To enter all case work contacts in PROMIS on a weekly basis.
    • To complete all sections of the FASP illustrating efforts and activities on behalf of the family, families behavioral changes, resistance, observation of care taker and children, and family assessment scales. Service plan goals are focused, time measurable and developed in collaboration with the family. All FASP will be submitted to supervisor 2 weeks prior to ACS due date.
    • To make required home visits per month and collateral contacts, as set by the Department in order to meet ACS mandates and ensure the safety of the children and family. Submit weekly/monthly calendar of scheduled visits to the supervisor. Submit casework contact sheets weekly to supervisor.
    • To facilitate family team conferences for your caseload and enter PROMIS within 48 hrs.
    • To prepare timely, complete and accurate reports this includes ACS reporting. Intra-agency reporting, data collection regarding services rendered and service outcomes.
    • To participate in mandatory once a week supervision and attend all mandatory trainings and general staff meetings.
    • To serve on committees as assigned and perform other job-related tasks and duties as assigned. 


    • Credentialed Alcohol Substance Abuse Counselor(CASAC)
    • MA/MSW/BA/BS/BSW degree plus experience with troubled families/children in a human service agency setting
    • Proven clinical skills pertaining to troubled children and families are preferred
    • Strong background working with MICA population
    • Good Assessment Skills
