  • Overview

    Rising Ground seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as the Development Assistant. The Development Assistant will be responsible for providing vital support to all fundraising, public relations, marketing, volunteerism and other activities of the Institutional Advancement Department. S/he works closely with the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement and other team members planning and coordinating development appeals and events, ensuring the integrity of the agency's donor database, website, and coordinating and assisting with other public relations, and marketing activities. This is a great opportunity for an individual interested in learning about fundraising, marketing and public relations at a leading organization in the nonprofit sector. S/he will report directly to the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement (IA).


    • Assists with Annual Toy and Backpack Drives
    • Responds to and retrieves record requests from Rising Ground alumni
    • Provides support to Senior Director of Institutional Advancement and other team members including supporting all areas of fundraising, volunteerism, public relations and marketing
    • Drafts, edits and prepares correspondence and acknowledgement letters; helps to create/design collateral materials; coordinates mailings and direct mail appeals
    • Facilitates and coordinates logistical aspects of Special Events (oversee mailings of save-the dates and event invitations, track rsvps, ticket sales and donations, research venues and vendor options, assist with venue contracts and deposits, maintain log of expenses, facilitate all details of events, etc.)
    • Maintains records and donor database; ensures that gifts, proposals, actions, and media are entered in Raiser's Edge accurately and on a timely basis; prepares analytical reports and queries via the Raisers Edge Software
    • Arranges donor engagement opportunities including program tours and cultivation events
    • Performs administrative and financial tasks, including ordering department supplies and the preparation of invoice vouchers and expense reports; produces monthly fundraising reports; tracks expenditures in relation to budget
    • Proofreads and edits grant proposals, newsletter articles and other correspondence as needed; assists with submission of grants by preparing necessary documentation
    • Contributes to compiling background research and prepares prospect briefing materials for individual and corporate prospects, including collection, assembly, and tabulation of data, and summarizing information into reports
    • Other duties as assigned 


    • Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite
    • B.A. or equivalent degree required
    • Knowledge of social media platforms preferred
    • Excellent writing, editing, verbal and organizational skills
    • Experience at a non-profit, including as a volunteer, preferred
    • Experience organizing events, professionally or as a volunteer, preferred
    • Commitment to, and passion for, the mission and values of Rising Ground
    • Experience in Raiser's Edge or comparable fundraising management software strongly preferred
