  • Overview

    The psychiatrist is responsible for providing services and care to people supported in the clinic by providing full psychiatric and medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, recommendations and follow up. The psychiatrist also provides clinical consultation to the interdisciplinary clinical team, participates in clinical presentations and agency’s learning collaboratives. The psychiatrist adheres to the agency strength based culture and is expected to provide person-centered, trauma informed psychiatric treatment.

    Responsibilities


    Conducts psychiatric assessments to children and adolescents receiving psychotherapy services in the clinic
    Provides medication management and assesses for the presence of medication side effects
    Performs physical examinations and preventative health measures within prescribed guidelines when needed
    Provides psycho-education about health/behavioral health diagnosis
    Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess for clinicalhealth care needs
    Records findings and formulates treatment plan and prognosis based on condition
    Reviews and discusses cases with the interdisciplinary clinical team, including but not limited to, other health professionals to prepare the person supported comprehensive treatment plan
    Initiates, develops and submits treatment plans for medication only
    Prescribes or recommends medication or makes referral to outside providers for consultation or to specialized health resources as clinically necessary
    Responsible for documenting all visits, medications prescribed and writing of orders
    Attends monthly consultation with Agency’s Medical Director
    Participates in trainings and practice improvement projects that benefit the people supported and the program
    Monitors person supported progress and recommends discharge and aftercare
    Attends agency wide trainings

    Qualifications


    A Medical degree with a license to practice in the State of New York
    A current DEA registration for the prescribing of controlled substance
    New York Ordering/Prescribing/Referring/Attending status to prescribe to Medicaid population
    A active Health Commerce Account to execute New York State I-STOP law
    Board Certification or plan for certification with specialization in Child/Adolescent population
    Bilingual Spanish preferred
    Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, Excel) and experience with Electronic Health Record and E-prescribing
    Able to encourage positive attitude toward consumer’s capabilities and limitations
