    Rising Ground is a leading social service agency dedicated to supporting children, adults and families.  Working together, we create strong foundations for success.  Our agency currently serves more than 11,000 individuals and their family members through 43 programs at 27 locations throughout the New York City area.  In our Head Start, Early Head Start, Universal Pre-Kindergarten and Child Care programs, teachers and staff provide the guidance, stability and assistance that young children need to thrive, striving to inspire a love of learning.  From play to structured lessons, our work with young children encourages them to actively question, explore and experiment while gaining a solid foundation for future success in and out of the classroom.  


    To provide instruction to preschool age children within the classroom setting.  The Teacher is instructional in shaping the child’s relationship with himself, others and the world. 


    • Prepare and implement lesson plans by facilitating the classroom activities and experiences.
    • Maintain classroom records/conduct on-going assessment on every child
    • Complete all required reports and assessments in a timely and professional manner
    • Advocate for proper safety procedures in and out of classroom environment
    • Attend all Professional Development opportunities
    • Attend all staff/team meetings
    • Partner with family members to encourage student proficiency in the five preschool domains (Cognitive; Language; Social/Emotional; Physical and Adaptive)
    • Assist preschoolers to develop through a wide variety of play options
    • Model consistent expectations and behaviors
    • Encourage students to follow classroom rules and routines
    • Encourage the development of fine and gross motor skills
    • Model healthy eating patterns and behaviors
    • Model appropriate social/emotional behaviors while encouraging children to develop positive relationships with others
    • Guide in the acquisitions of social skills that are practical and relevant to a preschool age child
    • Implement positive behavioral interventions


    • Have knowledge and experience in Early Childhood and Special Education philosophies
    • Have knowledge in developmentally appropriate educational practices
    • New York State Certification in Early childhood/Elementary Education
    • Master’s in special education (Students with Disabilities)
