  • Overview

    The Children’s Learning Center is a licensed preschool special education program serving students between the ages of 2.9 – 5 years of age in a special class model. Our school offers onsite special education and therapeutic services to support students who present with cognitive delays, speech/language delays and social/emotional delays, as well as sensory processing difficulties.

     

    We utilize a developmentally appropriate curriculum which supports children’s learning and social/emotional development. We follow the New York State Learning Standards and learning activities are individualized to meet the developmental needs of each child.

     

    Program Components:

    • NY State Certified Classroom teachers
    • Bilingual (Spanish) classrooms
    • 10 Classrooms with student to teacher ratio of 6:1-2, 8:1-2 and 12:1-2
    • Supportive Services includes speech, occupational and physical therapy and counseling
    • Full day program with nutritious breakfast and lunch
    • Teacher Assistants in every classroom
    • Family Support Groups and Workshops

    Responsibilities

    • Assist the Teacher with learning activities with individual students and with small group activities.
    • Assist the Teacher in observing and recording student behavior
    • Assist the Teacher in the preparation of instructional materials, bulletin boards, learning centers, etc.
    • Assist the Teacher in providing a learning environment conducive to learning.
    • Assist the Teacher in keeping classroom records and individual student records, as required
    • Maintain classroom supplies and equipment.
    • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, parent meetings.
    • Participate in staff development/training, as required.
    • Assist students with activities of daily living, as needed.
    • Translate written materials and interpret for students & family members, as appropriate.
    • Perform other related work as requested by the Program Director.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of high school diploma, Associate of Arts/Bachelor’s degree, preferred
    • Bilingual (Spanish)/ESL certification, preferred
    • Three years of work experience in an early childhood setting
    • Minimum of Level I New York State certification as an Assistant Teacher
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • NYS - TA Cert Level I
