  • Overview

    The Coordinator will be the primary person responsible for arranging, coordinating and implementing the strategies, services and resources of the Leake & Watts Community Schools Program, in consultation with the Principals and School Leadership Teams (SLTs) of the public schools supported by the program. He or she will organize the Community School Teams (CST) subcommittee of the SLTs. He or she will liaise with the schools, CBO partners and City agencies on behalf of Leake & Watts; participate in the development of the Community Schools Program School Renewal Plan Plan and programming at each individual school, and direct the implementation of all Community Schools programming. He or she will ensure that the School Renewal Plan is consistent with the expectations of the principal and SLT, and will be responsible to develop and carry out the parent and community engagement efforts.


    • Guides initial and on-going needs and resource assessment
    • Ensures broad understanding of positive youth development and family strengthening practices amongst all stakeholders
    • Guides high-quality program development and management
    • Facilitates the School Renewal Plan at all levels – promotes the collective vision, engages and excites others, ensures that programming supports the program vision, outlines the general direction of the partnership
    • Builds and guides coordinating body of community school
    • Develops strong partnership with school principals
    • Serves on leadership teams of schools
    • Manages programs, as the lead for all partnership activities in the school
    • Monitors program quality, logistical issues, timeliness, etc.
    • Develops procedures and policies as needed
    • Manages staff or leads team of partner staff
    • Working with Leake & Watts Manager of Volunteer Services, oversees parent and community volunteers
    • Ensures appropriate “fit” and accountability of programming that is aligned with program vision, developmentally appropriate, culturally appropriate and responsive to the populations served
    • Informs all stakeholders of nature and scope of the partnership
    • Brokers and tends relationships to strengthen the partnership
    • Builds long-term relationships with community, with “swinging door”
    • Oversees or leads communication and public education about CS
    • Cultivates “champions” among policy and other leaders
    • Works with Principal, coordinating body and CBO leadership to develop strategic funding plan and implement site-level resource development
    • Performs other related work as assigned by the Assistant Executive Director of Child Welfare


    • BA/BS required / Master’s preferred
    • 5 years relevant experience: school/community relations, social work, community or related field.
    • Experience in planning, implementation, evaluating, and budgeting
    • Excellent verbal, written communication, organizational skills are essential
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills are a must.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
    • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
