Overview

The Direct Support Professional provides person centered supports based on the individual’s needs, preferences and choices. DSPs perform a wide variety of tasks and activities based on the valued outcomes of each person they work with, and reflecting the specific skills and abilities of each individual. DSPs encourage, guide and offer training to develop daily living skills, ensuring personal needs are met, promoting active engagement in the community life and ensuring health and safety. DSPs create a positive and enriching program environment for all persons supported. Direct Support Professionals are a vital member of each person’s support team. DSP’s are expected to know, understand and live the Code of Ethics.

Annual Salary

  • $17.00 per hour with HS Diploma/GED
  • $17.23/hr with Associate's Degree
  • $17.73 per hour with Bachelor’s Degree

 

Available Shifts: 

  • 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Days Vary)
  • 3pm - 11 pm (Days Vary) 
  • 11 pm - 7 am (Days Vary) 

Responsibilities

Position Details:

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to enriching the lives of people with intellectual/developmental/mental health disabilities.

Responsibilities:                                                                      

  • Support the needs and goals of each resident by taking them to medical appointments, to visit family and friends, to preferred leisure/recreational activities, and encouraging them to socialize with peers.
  • Attended to the needs of each resident, including assisting them with grooming, bathing, hygiene, toileting to include incontinence, feeding and communicating other individual needs they may have.
  • Planning and implementing activities that help foster independence and promote community involvement.
  • Accompany individuals to scheduled medical appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; some college is a plus.
  • Valid Driver's License, NY State Required.
  • 6+ months of working or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental/mental health disabilities is a plus, but not required.
  • Communication skills (verbally and written) with all levels of personnel, internal and external with Rising Ground.
