Overview

Rising Ground, a leading nonprofit human services organization, provides children, adults, and families in the greater New York City area, with the resources and skills needed to help them rise above adversity and positively direct their lives.

In our Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services department, we provide habilitation and recreational services, job training for meaningful work, and supported housing for those who need assistance to live in the community. Our goal is to help people pursue their dreams, so they can thrive and grow.

Responsibilities

Rising Ground has an immediate opening(s) for a Full Time Direct Support Professional to work directly with adults living in their own homes in the community. Join our team in helping these individuals grow and develop by enhancing their decision-making skills, engaging in healthy activities, and promoting an independent and satisfying lifestyle.

 

The ideal candidate will be dedicated to enriching the lives of people with intellectual/developmental and mental health disabilities and will be able to help people in maintaining their home, budgeting, maintaining benefits, and the overall aspects of living independently.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; some college is a plus
  • Ability to attend two weeks of paid NYS Mandated OPWDD trainings between 9am-5pm
  • Participate in required background screening
  • Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental/mental health disabilities is a plus, but not required
  • Ability to work independently in someone’s home and community
  • Comfortability with writing reports on progress and documenting electronically
