The Unaccompanied Children Program provides long term and transitional residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Children (UC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, ORR, our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in a Basic Shelter program, and the Therapeutic Group Home programs located at our licensed residential facility in Yonkers, NY as well as a Transitional Foster Care program in foster homes in the Bronx, Queens and Westchester. In all programs, we provide therapeutic, medical and educational services, as well as other supports that youth need to achieve success through an array of strength-based and targeted interventions as we link them with family members and/or other sponsors in the United States. We want all children we support to move forward with their lives and thrive. These therapeutic counseling services are part of an exciting new initiative by New York State of an array of services, known as Children & Families Treatment & Support Services (CFTSS). The intention is to help prevent the progression of behavioral health needs through early identification and intervention and can be for children/youth who may not yet have a diagnosis. The goal is to correct or ameliorate problems with functioning or capacity for healthy relationships. Services are designed to be unique, flexible and targeted while also being client and family focused. The Group Leader will also provide opportunities for youth to exercise, socialize and share common interests with peers through organized recreational and cultural activities. The work requires the application of specialized skills, training and planning to meet the needs of the youth being served. The Group Leader monitors check-ins, engages the youth in group process throughout the day and leads five skills group each week at a regularly scheduled time. The Group Leader provides updates on each youth’s progress in the milieu during treatment team.

Fair Futures is also a comprehensive model that includes a middle school program that prepares students for success in high school and a coaching program where young people ages 14+ are matched with a full-time, professionally trained Coach. Coaches provide emotional support to young people, believe in them, and help them with their academic, career development, housing, and life skills goals.   As a result of the Fair Futures youth-led advocacy efforts, New York City became the first in the nation to secure public funding for all young people in foster care through age 26. In 2020, the Fair Futures model was implemented at all 26 foster care agencies. This year, the Fair Futures model is expanding to serve youth in the justice system in partnership with the Administration for Children’s Services.   Coaches are full-time, trained professionals who are matched with up to 10-15 young people ages 13 and older who have had experience with the justice system. Coaches meet young people “where they are” and build a trusting relationship with them using an authentic, trauma-informed, strength-based approach, often in partnership with colleagues at Close to Home. In addition to providing weekly emotional support, Coaches help young people make progress towards their academic, career development, housing/independent living, and other life goals. When a young person is unsure of their goals/interests, Coaches help them explore and expose them to potential opportunities. They then help young people connect to schools, programs, and opportunities in line with their goals/interests, persist in those settings, and plan/prepare for the next step on their journey. Coaches celebrate young people’s progress; if something doesn’t work out, Coaches help young people reflect and connect to the next opportunity.

The Plus Mentoring team works along with the Department of Probation to provide an alternative to detention group program for high risk youth, ages 13-18 in Brooklyn, and in the Bronx.    The Plus Mentoring team is a group-based mentoring program that helps young adults transform the attitudes and behaviors that led to their involvement with the criminal justice system by developing positive and appropriate relationships and supporting them in making safe decisions in the community. The team is made up of a full-time Program Coordinator and 3 part-time Credible Messenger Mentors. Youth will come together twice weekly as a cohort of up to 16 youth, ages 13-18, with the Plus Mentoring team supporting them. The mentors will utilize the Powersource Curriculum and ROCA Rewire CBT to support the youth to examine their feelings, evaluate their own behaviors and develop strategies for change. Group will also be used for group builders, educational activities, anger reduction strategies, recreational outings, group-based community service activities, and family events to name a few. Through our City-Wide program, we support survivors facing felony and/or misdemeanor charges in any borough. Through our Still Survivors program, a collaboration with the NYC Anti-Violence Project (AVP), we support survivors facing felony and/or misdemeanor charges in any borough, with a specific focus on LGBTQ survivors with ties to Manhattan. In addition, CSP has this position, a designated advocate/counselor serving criminalized survivors on site at the Manhattan and Brooklyn Family Justice Centers, and a Training Team that helps lead the City's whole response to criminalized survivors.   The FJC Advocate will provide direct counseling and emotional support, case management, and advocacy to criminalized survivors who seek services at the FJC(s) and serve as the resident criminalized survivor expert both at the FJC where they are stationed and within the broader network of all the City’s FJCs.

The Training Specialist helps to design and conducts training programs for the organization. They help monitor and report on the effectiveness of training on employees during the probationary period and for career development. Helps to manage special training projects as assigned.
