The FFT Therapist provides FFT (Functional Family Therapy) virtually, to a maximum of 10 voluntarily participating families at a time who reside in NYC. The target population of young adults (16-25 years old), who are referred to us after an arrest. Rising Ground is participating in a pilot program to offer FFT to families and young people who might otherwise find themselves incarcerated without this alternative.   FFT is an evidence-based model which is home-based, intensive, family therapy. Although, with the current status of COVID-19 in New York City, it is expected that sessions will occur virtually between therapists and families. The FFT Therapist participates in all FFT training and consultation activities, and program reviews.  In addition to providing Family Therapy, the FFT Therapist will collaborate with other service providers, including but not limited to the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) and New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA). The FFT Therapist is required to complete all FFT documentation requirements, including meeting appropriate therapeutic and engagement requirements and assessing for family safety and risk. Rising Ground is hiring Parent Advocates who will support parents with children in foster care to understand and navigate the foster care system, make decisions for their families, remain hopeful, and address family challenges so that they can accomplish their goal of reunification.  The focus of this job is building connections with parents and working collaboratively with case planners.  Each Parent Advocate will be assigned to a case planning unit and will support parents and bring their experience to the foster care agency decision-making process so that children are more likely to return home quickly and safely.  The Advocates will be part of the Parents Supporting Parents initiative recently launched by the NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), in conjunction with Rise, a parent-led NYC advocacy organization, and other important child welfare stakeholders.  All Advocates will receive training and support through Rise.   This initiative is built upon the premise that Advocates with their own personal prior lived experience of the child welfare system will be effective in informing and supporting parents with children in foster care, and help to improve outcomes for children and families.   This is a full-time position with a flexible work schedule that is based in our Brooklyn Office.

The Unaccompanied Children Program provides long term and transitional residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Children (UC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, ORR, our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in a Basic Shelter program, and our other programs located at our licensed residential facility in Yonkers, NY as well as a Transitional Foster Care program located in foster homes in the Bronx, Queens and Westchester. In all programs, we provide therapeutic and educational services and other supports that youth need to achieve success through an array of strength-based and targeted interventions as well as link them with family members and/or other sponsors in the United States so they are able to move forward with their lives and thrive. The Home Finder/trainer will be responsible for certifying all Transitional Foster Homes for the UC Program.  This will include certifying existing homes and recruiting new foster homes.

This position will require intensive individual and group life skills training to UC ages 12 to 17 years old who are placed in the Basic Shelter Program. Transitional Foster Care Program and the Long-Term foster Care Program. For children placed in the TFC and LTFC program in the community, IL skills must be provided where the children reside. The Enhanced Intensive Community Monitoring (ICM) Plus Transformative Mentoring program is designed to help juvenile clients make safe decisions and avoid being sent to detention facilities. The ICM Plus Transformative Mentoring team works along with Department of Probation to provide the highest level of alternative to detention programming for high risk youth, ages 13-18 in the Bronx.   The Transformative Mentoring team is a group-based mentoring program that helps young adults transform the attitudes and behaviors that led to their involvement with the criminal justice system by developing positive and appropriate relationships and supporting them in making safe decisions in the community.  The team is made up of a full time Program Coordinator and 4 part-time Credible Messenger mentors.  Youth will come together twice weekly as a cohort of up to 16 youth, ages 13-18, with the Transformative Mentoring team supporting them. The mentors will utilize Interactive Journaling and Motivational Interviewing to support the youth to examine their feelings, evaluate their own behaviors and develop strategies for change.  In addition, Mentors will facilitate groups that are targeted to meet the needs of where the group and individuals are at and to ensure we are targeting services at risks identified in the YLS. Group will also be used for group builders, educational activities, anger reduction strategies, trips, recreational outings, group-based community service activities, and family events to name a few. Youth will also meet with mentors and Program Coordinator on an ad hoc basis throughout the week for one-on-one mentoring as well as for support with case management services.
